This last Earth Day inspired me to do some sustainable shopping, and where better to start than the perfect pair of jeans. Boyish is a Los Angeles based company that focuses on the sustainable + ethical production of amazing denim. In their own words, ‘the only impact we’ll leave on the planet is good jeans’.
I purchased the ‘Billy’ fit which is described as a classic skinny. This is not the super-skinny jogging fit that ruled during the early 2000’s but rather a more tapered version of a straight leg jean. I prefer a more relaxed fit in general, but I especially loved a more relaxed fit in the leg. The Billy is a great high rise fit that hits just under the belly button.
Denim is always crazy difficult for me to find my perfect size. I can wear anywhere from a 23 to a 26 depending on the brand, making online jean shopping difficult. I purchased a size 25 which is my normal size in rigid or stiffer denim. Boyish seemed to fit more true to size than my past Levis purchases where I had to size up to a 26 (Levis is the only brand I size up this high typically due to the way the crotch fits, you all know what I’m talking about). For a better gauge, I typically wear a 24 at Madewell who typically adds a little more stretch to their denim. My only complaint about the fit is that I wish they were about a quarter to a half an inch shorter. I’m 5’5 and normally don’t buy shot or petite jeans, but these seem to run just a smidge long. So for you short gals out there, you may need to get these hemmed as they do not offer short sizes.
My favorite thing about. them is the gorgeous wash. I refuse to buy most stretch jeans because I hate how the wash finishes, and will forgo the comfort of stretch denim. But wow, these might be the most beautifully washed pair of jeans I own. The perfect mid-indigo to match literally anything in my closet.
I’ve washed my Boyish jeans and they seem to hold their wash + shape beautifully. I typically wash with cold water with other denim and never put them in the dryer. This is what causes your denim to shrink + wash out.
So, if you’re looking for a pair of jeans you can love forever (+ please consider this as a way to help our planet!) Boyish is your brand! Sustainable, great quality, and so aesthetically dreamy I’m not sure if I’ll ever buy another denim brand again.
